About Me

My name is Katie and I am an avid quilter living in Missoula, Montana.  I am also an opera singer and a University Professor. In addition to quilting my other passion in life is music and helping students grow as people and performers.  In the summer I trade my singing passion  and quilting studio over for gardening and think my veggie garden is pretty close to paradise.  We especially love growing pumpkins! I have two young kiddos and love making quilts for their birthday each year! I enjoy both the piecing and quilting aspect of creating quilts. Quilts are pieces of living, multi-generational art. They bring comfort, joy, nostalgia and warmth to our hearts and homes.  I also believe quilts are meant to be used and loved.  In our house they make for great blanket-forts, picnic blankies, and camping quilts.

I especially love the machine quilting process. I quilt on my HQ sixteen longarm and at times on my domestic BrotherPQ1500SL.  I most enjoy doing a combination of free-motion quilting and ruler work.  I love using the quilting to highlight the design and piecing of the quilt top. To me, the quilting makes a beautifully pieced quilt 'pop.' It gives it movement, life and dimension.  I can also do over-all quilting (Edge-to Edge), or a combination! I offer high, medium, and low density quilting to suite your preference.

I am happy to consult you on your perfect quilting preferences. I will help you in the process of deciding what quilting look most aligns with your vision of your finished quilt.   We can consult in-person, over the phone, or via video chat.

Although I now mostly quilt on my longarm, above is proof that gorgeous work can be done on a domestic! This quilt is huge--about 120x120!

Also some of my lovely thread!
